Insulin Resistant Sugar Addict
OK... so I am insulin resistant which means that my body doesn't use the sugar that it already has... it stores it as fat... basically my body doesn't know how to process it... which is a HUGE problem because I am addicted to sugar. I made "healthy cookies" today which really means that I replaced the butter with applesauce. Well I should of just eaten the applesauce and not made the cookies because I ate 8 good sized cookies!!! Can you believe it... 8!! Brandon was working on his homework and I was blog-hopping and just sat there and ate one cookie after another after another... etc etc etc. When I was walking out the door to take Lola on a quick potty run (she has to go outside or else she will pee on the floor and brandon gets REALLY upset if that happens!) Brandon walks out of the den and says "SWEETIE... I ONLY HAD TWO OF THOSE COOKIES AND THERE IS ONLY ONE LEFT!" Not only do I feel gross for eating 8 cookies... even though there was no fat in them (except in the chocolate chips)... I have now noticed my growing thighs and Brandon is starting to question my eating habits (as you can tell by the above statement). Oh husbands! I just love them so much! Just as much as I love sugar! What can I say... I am an addict. I guess I have started on the right path because what do they teach in AA?... that admitting you have a problem is the first step. Maybe since I have now broadcasted this to the entire blogging world you can all help me do better and give me tips and tricks of other fellow sugar addicts out there! I can't be the only one... or at least I hope not! So with summer coming and bathing suit season coming with it, it is really time to buckle down, work out more, and eat better! It's just that dang natural man tendency! Let me explain how it works... I can tell myself that I am not going to eat chocolate.. as soon as i see a piece my mind goes... CHOCOLATE!! CHOCOLATE!! I LOOOOVE CHOCOLATE... and then i cave in. So then it goes in cycles from there on out... I eat the chocolate.. feel guilty... eat chocolate to make myself not be sad about it anymore... and so it goes... like the pride cycle without the whole blessed/cursed thing. So here is my goal... to see if I can go an entire week without eating any candy, cakes, muffins, ice cream, candy bars at work, cookies, and chocolate chips ( i have bags and bags of them in my cupboard... what can I say.. the sugar addict finds good sales on sugar!). I will post next week and let you know how I did. I will need all of your prayers this week!

Oh my gosh, I totally understand!! I think I will most definitely have diabetes when I get older. I'm a total addict. So with that said, I would like to take on this challenge with you. Maybe that will make it easier. So I'll check back on you next week and I'll let you know how I did. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI do that, too. My daughter is allergic to soy, nuts, milk, eggs. I was doing really well and almost to my target weight when I took her in for her 18-mo check up. She hadn't gained any weight in 6 months. So, I started baking "healthy" snacks for her (oatmeal cookies-to help with iron- using applesauce instead of butter, as well) and started eating them, as well. If it is in the house, I eat it. I even tried using the Pampered Chef small cookie scoop to make small cookies (perfect size for her little hands and mouth). Unfortunately, I've gained back what I had lost. But, I'm happy to report, she is gaining weight and is happier because she can have snacks. Store bought snacks for people with food allergies are soooooo expensive! I agree, recognition is the first step. I think I'll join you as well in cutting back on sugar/sweet intake. BTW, our blog is jasonbollesfamily.blogspot.com.
ReplyDeleteGood luck! Greg loves desserts and can eat pretty much all he wants. And since I work at home, I am in the house with leftover desserts all the time. So I've started having Greg leave them in his truck. That way he can eeat them and they don't tempt me all day long.
ReplyDeleteEvery time I want icecream....(Well not EVERY time) I eat cottage cheese and peaches. Its super yummy. Maybe instead of cookies you can eat....well I don't know what to replace cookies with. Good luck ;)
